Royal Doulton's brilliant creative director, Charles Noke, was well into his seventies when he introduced character jugs (often referred to as character mugs) in 1933. His fertile imagination was still working overtime in 1939 when he adapted his most famous characters into a collection of useful gifts known as derivatives, that included musical jugs, tobacco jars, sugar bowls, toothpick holders and teapots.
An exciting Royal Doulton event and exposition is to take place at the Marriott Eagle Crest Resort in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
This preeminent international exposition, hosted by The Whitley Collection, is to take place July 17 - 19, 2009 and will feature an expansive roster of prestigious, international exhibitors featuring the finest in Royal Doulton, Moorcroft, and other masters of British art pottery design.
